  • This is one of the most important resources in our kura, each book is a wananga, supported by rauemi, we love the Takawiniwini series. We can't all have Quinton Hita at our kura, but we can have a piece of his reo to share with our tamariki!

  • We utilise Takawiniwini with all of our Kura Tēina as part of our Reo Māori Strategy plan. We access this resource to ensure our tamariki are exposed to te reo o te kāinga. Our tamariki and kaiako enjoy working through the interactive activities and games to grasp kupu hou and to check on correct sentence structures.

I wish to express my deepest appreciation for all that I have read, watched and listened to with 'Maori in a Minute' and I support this kaupapa from the bottom of my heart because it is all about 'Whanau' to me. FAQs

  • No it’s not. It’s not a formal or structured course. Māori in a Minute is divided into three parts. The first part is Takawiniwini, the digital children’s library that is 100% te reo Māori. Obviously this will be most useful to fluent speaking children/families. The second part is Games. These games are loaded in a website browser and require up-to-date operating systems to function optimally. And the third part is hundreds of home videos that were taken as a video diary over 2-3 years. They are snippets of te reo Māori life, and have no particular structure to them. They demonstrate words and sentences relevant to the day to day activities during that period.

  • Māori in a Minute will probably most benefit whānau with intermediate level fluency or higher. For those who have a particular interest in the Ngāpuhi dialect, this resource could also be valuable to supplement a more traditional course. There are not many Māori Minute resources that directly target beginners. Most of the resources are bi-lingual or 100% te reo Māori.

  • There is material here for all ages. The videos are mostly aimed at adults, whilst Takawiniwini and the games were created for tamariki. Many adults have also shared with me how much value they get themselves from the books in Takawiniwini, as those books are full of Ngāpuhi words and sentence structures.

  • An annual subscription is $60 a year. There are discounted options for schools to enable large enrollment numbers. These options can be selected when paying for a subscription. Māori Minute is a project committed to making the resources available to as many whānau as possible, hence the low subscription cost. You can cancel at any time, and there is a 7 day free trial so you can be sure that these resources are actually going to be useful to you.

  • The future goal is to complete 300 books. 50 for each of the six levels in Takawiniwini. Over 200 have been completed so far.

In addition to that, translations of all the books, worksheets for all books, and narration for all books. This will be the main focus over the next year.
